National Merit Award Winners
We all know that Gross Catholic High School has a top notch academic program. What you may not know is that seniors Jill Ruane and Kylee Schultz embody Gross Catholic’s academic excellence.
Jill Ruane, has been named a 2017 National Merit Semifinalist. Academically talented high school seniors like Jill have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered next Spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of competition. About half of all Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title. National Merit Semifinalist students placed among the top one percent of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2017 competition by taking the 2015 Preliminary SAT/ National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Congrats Jill!
Additionally, Kylee Schultz, has been named a Commended Student in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top five percent of the students that take the qualifying test. Way to go Kylee!
Last year, 2016 grad Christa Holland was named a National Merit finalist and received a full ride scholarship to the University of Oklahoma.
