At different points of their high school careers, students may need additional academic support. The following programs are in place to assist students and help them be academically successful at Gross Catholic.
Study Skills is a class that students may voluntarily take for credit. The class is structured in such a way that students not only work on homework assignments as they would in a study hall, but they practice the following concepts and skills: note-taking, study habits, goal-setting, prioritization, organization and time-management. Each of these concepts is reinforced through daily interaction with the teacher and student progress is monitored with weekly reports to parents.
Parents have the capability of monitoring their son or daughter’s academic progress through Edline. However, parents may choose to use an academic progress report. The progress report allows teachers to communicate a student’s grade, behavior, and assignment completion to parents on a weekly basis. Progress reports are required for determining eligibility for selected students participating in athletics and activities.
Tutoring is available for students who need additional help outside of the classroom. Members of the National Honor Society serve as peer tutors and may work with their fellow students during or after school. Arrangements for peer tutoring may be made by contacting a counselor.
Students are encouraged to take advantage of not only the assistance of their teachers, but also the many academic supports offered at Gross Catholic. However, if more extensive help is needed or tutoring is not available in a particular subject area, you may contact the counselors at Gross Catholic for information and recommendations regarding outside resources.
