Gross Catholic curriculum includes four required theology courses for students and an optional senior seminar. In addition, students participate in an apostolic outreach, whereby they can offer service to their school, church, and the community each year.
Theology 1 leads the students toward a deeper understanding of the Bible and the history of our salvation presented within it. The students learn to navigate the Bible and use basic exegetical skills. The second semester leads the students toward a deeper understanding of divine Revelation, the Trinity, the Incarnation, Jesus' significant relationships, Jesus' teachings, Jesus' example, salvation, and discipleship as a response to God's love.
Theology 2 introduces the Hebrew Scriptures using a historical, cultural, and theological framework applying the stories and themes to our lives. Study of the Christian Testament, particularly the Gospels as a source of discovering Jesus, is also part of the curriculum.
Theology 3 reflects on the roots of Catholicism to foster an appreciation for our history and heritage. A moral framework will be presented whereby the student is challenged to accept the role of being a responsible Catholic; thus, helping the student to achieve his or her potential in the light of Catholic Church teachings and directives.
Theology 4 explores social justice issues and students will complete an action project responding to injustice in the community at large. Through a study of Christian lifestyles, the student will gain a clearer understanding of the four lifestyle paths: marriage, consecrated life, single and ordained clergy.
Senior Seminar in Apologetics uses a mix of classical philosophy, metaphysics, and Roman Catholic dogmatic theology to address student-initiated topics regarding faith, spirituality, and contemporary issues.
