She is the Top Youth Fundraiser for the Alzheimer Association Midlands Chapter. She is the 2012 Prudential Spirit of Community State Honoree and Maddie Cunningham is a student at Gross Catholic.
Maddie’s crusade against Alzheimer’s started when she was just six-years-old and told her mother she wanted to raise money in honor of her great-grandmother, who had the disease.
Through annual bake sales held in her own driveway, and “dollar casual days” at her grade school, St. Bernadette, Maddie has raised almost $13,000 over the past eight years.
In November, the Cougar freshman was honored as the Alzheimer’s Association’s top fundraiser in her area, contributing to the annual fundraising walk.
In addition to her top fundraiser award, Maddie was honored as a 2012 State Honoree for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. Over 5000 Nebraska youth volunteers applied for the prestigious award. Maddie was one of two students honored. She received a cash award, an engraved silver medallion and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington D.C., to attend several days of national recognition events.
Maddie is the daughter of John ’82 and Tina Miklas Cunningham ’86. She plans to continue to raise money for Alzheimer’s through her annual bake sales.
