Meet Meg McCoy!
Meg is a thriving thespian, songstress and student athlete. She participates in book club, LIFE Core team, drama, choir, and is a member of the Cougar volleyball team and National Honor Society. Most recently, Meg delighted audiences at the spring musical with her performance as Ursula, the Sea Witch in Gross Catholic’s production of The Little Mermaid. Her favorite classes at Gross Catholic include Musical Theatre, Psychology, Personal Finance, Individual and Team Sports, and English.
Meg credits her active involvement at Gross Catholic with helping prepare her to lead. “I have been a student ambassador since my sophomore year, promoting recruitment to the school. I was a Student Advocate Leadership Team (SALT) member for Barrett house last year, helping my house win second place in the House Tournament. I am on the Living in Faith Experience (LIFE) core team, where I help plan and run meetings once a month for students to come discuss their faith and world issues,” states Meg.
She also notes that the very motto of Gross Catholic, Dux Esto, is embodied throughout the school. “With a motto like Dux Esto, how could I attend Gross Catholic and not be prepared to lead,” shares Meg. “Different leadership opportunities constantly arise, because we are a well-rounded school. We focus a lot on academics, but Gross Catholic also encourages students, like myself, to participate in service and extracurricular activities.”
Although a self-proclaimed introvert, Meg served as a Gross Catholic representative for the Nebraska Thespian Festival in 2018 and treasurer for the Drama Department. “I am grateful to many of the activities I participate in at Gross for giving me the opportunity to lead by example and in a more vocal and authoritative way. Gross Catholic has forced me to step out of my comfort zone, and I couldn’t be more grateful,” exclaimed Meg.
Meg is one of five children in the McCoy family and a legacy graduate. Her father Kevin is an alumni and current member of the Gross Catholic Advisory Board. She will join siblings Joe and Mary Kate who have already graduated from Gross Catholic. Meg plans to attend college in the fall and study a career path that will position her for both happiness and success. We wish Meg the best of luck in her journey!
