Welcome to the Parent Paws Newsletter!

The Parent Paws Newsletter appears in the News section of our website every Friday during the school year.

From The Principal

We are off to a great start in our second semester. There are so many things coming up that we want everyone to be aware of. Here are a few things to note: Jan. 16th: No School for students, Jan. 16th – 20th is Founder’s Week, Jan. 23 begins re-enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year (We will be hosting a family help nigh on Wed., Jan. 25th from 6:30 – 7:30 PM to assist with re-enrollment for returning students) and Catholic Schools Week is Jan. 29th – Feb. 4th. All these things are happening along with the day to day school work and other clubs and athletic activities.

Also, coming soon, Parent Teacher Conferences on Feb. 15th. These will be virtual conferences. We will be sending out information along with a link in the upcoming weeks for you to select the times you would like to meet with your student’s teachers.

Next week we celebrate Founders Week! Check out the fun things planned!

The SnowBall Dance is on Jan. 28th from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Tickets are $10. Dressy/Semi-formal attire is optional. Students are not required to have a date to attend but, for this dance, girls are encouraged to ask guys! Tickets for the dance will be sold in January!

Evangelium Institute would like to provide more options and opportunities for those who seek to better understand their Catholic faith. Please take a few minutes to complete this anonymous survey so they can have a better understanding of your needs.

We will be hosting a re-enrollment night help session on Wednesday, January 25th in the Innovation Center. This is a great opportunity to have in-person help with getting your child re-enrolled for the 2023-2024 school year. There will be Spanish speaking individuals there to help as well. More details to come.

You may have heard that Gross Catholic’s Environmental Science class reimplemented a schoolwide plastic and aluminum recycling program earlier this fall. Find out more about this now.

Registration is now open for Trivia Night. Sign up soon, as this event sells out quickly.

Save the date for CeleBration39 on Saturday, April 29th. This year the event will be coming back to Gross Catholic and we will need a lot of volunteers to help. More details to come.

Campus Ministry

Senior parents, your student’s retreat is just around the corner (Wed, Feb 1). Hopefully you are working on your student’s retreat letter. All letters must be received by Friday, January 20 so that they can be sorted for retreat. View the letter now. If you have questions contact Mrs. Sweetmon, msweetmon@gcgmail.org.

Gross Catholic will be sponsoring a two day Pro-Life Awareness event on Friday, January 27th and Saturday, January 28th. Students may participate on Friday without participation on Saturday. Students will attend Mass, pray at the Bellevue abortion mill, visit with and tour pro-life resource ministries in the Metro area and meet with Heather Hurby from Rachel’s Vineyard. We will also attend the Nebraska Walk for Life in Lincoln on Saturday, January 28th.

Counselors Corner

Senior Parents: The most recent senior newsletter posted in the class of 2023 Google classroom has more than 70 scholarships listed. If your senior has not been reading the newsletters, they have already missed several scholarship deadlines!!! Encourage them to take a look!

Senior students should also be checking their college portals for important information regarding enrollment deposits, housing, and financial aid.

The JPII Newman Center at UNO has a Spring Open House on February 25th from 11 AM – 2PM.

Junior Parents: There are several days off of school this semester. This is a great time to schedule college visits!
