School Counselor

School Counselor Job Opening

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Gross Catholic is searching for a High School Counselor. Successful candidates must be able to assist students with academic schedules, support students’ social/emotional needs, and work with students to plan for their future.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Commitment to the mission of Gross Catholic High School.
  • Strong rapport with students, parents, teachers, and staff.
  • Counsel students to fully develop each student’s academic, career, personal and social abilities.
  • Help host events such as, but not limited to, freshmen parent information nights, back to school night, open house, career day and Pre-ACT testing day.
  • Openness to participate in a student-centered, family- and faith-oriented community.
  • Experience with and desire to engage in extracurricular activities, coaching, or moderating clubs and activities.

Education and Experience

  • A master’s degree in school counseling with Nebraska certification or the ability to obtain the appropriate certification by August 1st, 2024.
  • Experience in high school counseling is preferred, but not required.

Head Varsity Softball Coach

Head Varsity Softball Coach Job Opening

Supervisor: Athletic Director
Responsible To: Gross Catholic Student-Athletes, Parents, GCHS Board of Directors, NSAA

Position Summary

This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the Softball program, as well as overseeing the Jr. Cougar Softball program.

Qualifications

Experience: Previous head coaching experience at the high school or club level preferred. Playing experience required.

Certificate: Must be NFHS concussion, heat illness prevention, and sudden cardiac arrest, and CPR/AED certified or willing to complete certification shortly after hire.

Essential Functions and Duties

  1. Assumes responsibility for the entire program which includes:
    • Coaching the varsity team and supervising JV & assistant coaches
    • Giving guidance to the high school junior varsity program
    • Implementing and overseeing offseason development of student-athletes
    • Implementing Gross Catholic Athletic Department policies
  2. Assists in the selection and evaluation of Junior Varsity and assistant coaching staff.
  3. Works with the Gross Catholic High School Athletic Director and Principal
    • Communicating of high school softball schedule
    • Arrangement and communication of travel
    • Verification of student physical examination requirements of the high school
    • Preparation of athletic permission slips and eligibility lists
      Organization of middle school communications of the high school soccer program for incoming freshmen
  4. Works with Gross Catholic High School Athletic Director to correlate the practice schedules of JV & Varsity teams.
  5. Supervises practice fields and playing fields during and following periods of team participation.
  6. Remains with students and supervises them while traveling to away competitions.
  7. Cares for athletes and injured athletes.
  8. Cares for, maintains and oversees the storage of all equipment and uniforms
  9. Prepares award lists and season records.
  10. Works closely with newspapers, radio and television personnel to encourage favorable public interest in the program specifically and the athletic program generally.
  11. Promotes support of Gross Catholic Booster Club and any sale of tickets associated with it.
  12. Works closely with the Gross Catholic High School in preparation and control of field facilities.
  13. Keeps informed on current trends in your sport and attends and participates in clinics and ongoing professional development in your sport.
  14. Maintains active membership in related professional organizations.
  15. Maintains a positive staff relationship with other coaches
  16. Performs other duties as assigned by the Gross Catholic High School Athletic Director and Principal
  17. Communicates with players about personal development during the season as well as the off-season.
  18. Holds meetings with parents to inform them about the program as well as your expectations of them and the players.
  19. Leads by example of the values set forth by Gross Catholic High School.
  20. Promotes the high school softball program by encouraging participation of players of the upcoming season.
  21. Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
  22. Will aggressively sell Gross Catholic High School and its Softball program to middle school athletes and their families by engaging them and being accessible.
