Chad Meyers Inducted into Nebraska Hall of Fame!

Chad Meyers FootballChad Meyers, ‘93, received a prestigious honor when he was inducted into the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame during a ceremony on September 14, 2025, at Lincoln East High School. Remarkably, he is the first Gross Catholic individual inducted, joining the GC 1999 championship volleyball team, which was honored in 2024.

“I was honestly humbled and a little overwhelmed. To be included among so many incredible athletes and coaches who have represented Nebraska with such distinction is an honor beyond words. It immediately brought back memories of my teammates, coaches, and the community that supported me every step of the way. It’s a recognition that feels much bigger than just me; it represents all of us who were part of those teams,” Meyers said after learning of his selection to the Hall of Fame.

Celebrating Unforgettable Memories

Chad found it difficult to identify one favorite memory from his athletic career at Gross Catholic. However, winning individual and team titles in wrestling as a senior stands out. “To finish undefeated and share that moment with my coaches, teammates, and family was unforgettable. But just as meaningful were the day-to-day experiences—practice battles, back hallways and stairs, and the friendships built that have lasted a lifetime,” he said.

These experiences at Gross Catholic taught Meyers valuable lessons in discipline, resilience, and the importance of faith and community. “The coaches demanded excellence but also taught us about character and accountability. Balancing academics and athletics instilled a strong work ethic that carried into college, my professional career, and my personal life. More than anything, Gross instilled a sense of humility and service that has stayed with me,” he added.

A Journey Beyond Gross Catholic

After leaving Gross Catholic, Chad joined the Creighton University baseball program for three productive seasons before being drafted in the 5th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Chicago Cubs. Subsequently, he played professionally for eleven seasons. Now, he lives in Papillion with his wife, Erin, and their children, Davis and Mason Meyers. Passionate about giving back, he invests in the next generation just as others once invested in him.
