Alumni Giving Makes a Difference

The Gross Catholic Alumni Giving Challenge creates more than friendly competition between graduating classes. Most importantly, it creates opportunities for students like Abby Colburn.

Abby received the Alumni Giving Challenge Scholarship from the Class of 1973. She earned the scholarship after writing an essay offering advice to incoming Gross Catholic freshmen.

Through her essay, Abby hoped to help new students worry less about their freshman year. Additionally, she shared lessons she learned from her own experiences and from others.

Receiving the scholarship also helped Abby continue her education at Gross Catholic. Furthermore, it gave her more opportunities to grow in her faith and as a student.

Abby’s experience shows how alumni generosity can directly influence a student’s Gross Catholic journey. As a result, the challenge connects alumni support with the next generation of Cougars.

Which Class Will Rise to the Challenge?

The Class of 1973 currently holds the title of reigning Alumni Giving Challenge champion. In 2025, the class joined an impressive list of past winners.

The Class of 2000 won in 2024 and 2020. Meanwhile, the Class of 2003 claimed the title in 2023, 2022, and 2021. The Class of 1999 won the Spring 2021 Challenge and the 2019 challenge.

However, the real victory goes far beyond class bragging rights. Together, Gross Catholic alumni provide meaningful opportunities for current students.
